Meet Sheriff Ball

Dr. Denita Ball was appointed Milwaukee County Sheriff by Governor Tony Evers on October 27, 2022. She went on to win the election for a full term in November 2022, making history as the first woman elected Sheriff in Milwaukee County and the first Black woman elected sheriff in Wisconsin. Before becoming Sheriff, Ball served as Chief Deputy Sheriff, overseeing the Sheriff’s Office’s day-to-day operations and leading public safety services across the county. Prior to joining the Sheriff’s Office, she built a distinguished 25-year career with the Milwaukee Police Department. Sheriff Ball brings proven leadership and deep professional training to the job. She is a graduate of the National Sheriffs’ Institute Leadership Development Course and Jail Administration Course, the Department of Homeland Security Leadership Academy, the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Executive Development Course, and the Southern Police Institute Chief Executive Leadership Course.
